What is the MyQ technology from Liftmaster?

This new technology from LiftMaster / Chamberlain called MyQ allows you to operate your garage door via smart phone app that you download for free from LiftMaster into any smart phone. You will need to purchase what they call a Internet gateway (LM828) which is a small device that  connects to your ­ Internet at your home.

It just plugs into your modem or router with ethernet cable and then it needs to be programmed to the opener unit. Another option is to get one of the “W” models of Liftmaster, like the 8550W model, that has the MyQ technology built in and does not require any additional devices.

Because of the fact that you can control your garage door from your smart phone pretty much means that you can control your garage door from almost anywhere in the world where you have internet connectivity,

so if you are on vacation and need to let in a repair man or a family member or someone watching your pets all they have to do is text or call you and with a touch of a button you can open the garage door for them. You can also make sure it is closed and secure when they leave this is sometimes better than a keyless entry keypad because you will have to give people your codes and then might have to change them or wipe the old coats, The MyQ technology kind of eliminates that issue.

The great thing about this technology is that it not only can control your garage door but lighting in your home and it will let you know if the door was opened or if you leave your home and forget to close the door it will also alert you and it seems that they are coming out with new technologies that work with my queue for your home every other week it’s hard to keep up but it is getting bigger and bigger and enabling you to control more and more from your smart phone when you are away from your house. You have to remember that the Internet gateway box is not included with the opener it will cost you about 60 bucks to add to your package so don’t be confused if you see a picture of it on a box that you bought at a retail hardware store thinking that it is included at this point they’re not including him with their openers but I’m sure they will in the future.
