When should I use vinyl trim around my garage door?

Vinyl trim should be used around a garage door to create a weather proof seal around the top and sides

of the garage door. The weather seal helps prevent wind and moisture from entering the garage door at

the top and sides of the garage door. It also helps keep blown debris like leaves and other trash from

blowing into the garage when the garage door is closed.

Garage door vinyl trim is typically made from a PVC material that nails to the outside of the garage door

frame with a flap that seals by pressing against the outside top and sides of the garage door creating a

tight seal. This vinyl trim comes in several colors to match most garage door colors and is paintable to

match your door color.

When creating a weather tight seal around your garage door it is also important to maintain and replace

when necessary, the bottom weather seal on the garage doors bottom panel. Garage doors come with a

bottom weather seal from the manufacturer, but this seal should be checked regularly for damage and

dry rot and replaced as required. The bottom weather seal helps prevent wind, moisture and debris

from blowing in the garage under the garage door. There are several style of weather seal for the

bottom section of the garage door. You will need to buy weather seal that matches the retainer installed

on your garage door or purchase new retainer strips to match the weather seal you will be installing.
