Car2U is a universal garage door opener remote feature available on some Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet,
Ford, GMC, Lincoln, Mazda, Mercury, Saturn, and Hummer vehicles. This system is very similar to the
Home Link system. Programming the Car2U is different if you have the newer learn button on your
garage opener or the older DIP switches. The learn buttons utilize rolling codes(frequencies) while DIP
switches operate on a single frequency.
To program the Car2U to a rolling code system you will need to locate the learn button on the back or
side of your garage door opener motor. This will require the use of a ladder, use caution anytime you
are using a ladder to avoid accidentals falls and injury.
1. Press the two outer Car2U buttons for about 2 seconds then release.
2. Press the learn button on the garage door opener motor. You will have 30 seconds to complete
3. Press and hold the Car2U button you would like to control your garage door. Release the button
as soon as the door starts to move. When the Car2U button is released the indicator light will
blink rapidly until programming is complete.
4. Press and release the Car2U button you just programmed. The garage door should begin to
move, this confirms the programming is complete. If the garage door does not move, repeat the
listed steps. You can find complete programming instructions at the Car2U web site.
To program the Car2U to a fixed frequency transmitter you will need to locate the DIP switches on the
back or side of the garage door opener or on the hand held remote. You will need to locate the position
of each of the 8-12 DIP switches. You will record the DIP switch locations from left to right. The positions
will be up,+ or on; middle,0 or neutral; or down,- or off.
1. Note DIP switch locations left to right: L= up,+ or on M=middle,0 or neutral and R=down,- or off.
2. Before imputing the DIP switch sequence press all 3 Car2U buttons at the same time and hold
for about 5 seconds. The indicator light will blink slowly confirming it is in programming mode.
Enter your corresponding DIP switch locations from left to right using the 3 Car2U buttons.
3. After inputting the DIP switch locations press and release all 3 Car2U buttons at the same time.
The indicator light will come on. Press and hold the Car2U button you want to control your
garage door, when the door starts to move release the button.
4. The indicator light will blink rapidly until programming is complete. If the garage door does not
open and close when the Car2U button just programmed is pressed, repeat the listed steps. You
can find complete programming instructions at the Car2U website.
Unlike the Home Link system, the Car2U does not work to turn on lights or other features like lock out
features. The Car2U is also not compatible with garage door or gate openers manufactured outside of
If you have problems programming your Car2U or feel it is too difficult, contact a local garage door
service company for programming. The cost of programming will vary from company to company and by
