Will Garage Door Openers Manufactured for use in the United States Work in Other Countries?

Above you will see a chart of electric plugs of different types. Not all countries use the same type of electric plug connections and different countries use different voltages and megahertz. A garage door opener manufactured for use in the United States of America will not work in Europe. In the United States we use 120 volts and 60Hz utilizing plug types A and B while Europe uses 230 volts and 50Hz utilizing plug type G.

In the United States, most household items work off of 110 volt alternating currency at 60Hz, with a few items like dryers and cook stoves working off 220 volts. This was done in the United States to enabled safe delivery of electric service across a large grid.

In Europe and other countries around the word household electric appliances still work off of 220 and 230 volt alternating currency at 50Hz or 60Hz. Some items, like electric travel shavers and some computers, tablets and cellphones have a switch to change between 110 volts and 240 volts with the use of a mains adapter.

With this in mind we can understand that a garage door opener manufactured for use in one country will not necessarily work in another country as the voltage and megahertz may be different as well as a different style of plug.

The chart below lists several countries with voltage, megahertz, and plug type used in that country:

Country    Voltage    Megahertz    Plug Type

USA            120v            60Hz              A/B

UK              230v             50Hz               G

UAE            230v             50Hz               G

South Africa  230v          50Hz               C/D/M/N

South Korea  220v          60h                  Z F

Japan         100V               50Hz/60Hz   A/B

Germany    230v               50Hz                C/F

China          220v               50Hz               A/C/I

This is just a partial list check for your specific country to ensure the device you purchase will utilize the proper voltage, megahertz and plug type.
